John Coltrane was the most revolutionary and influential tenor saxophonists in modern jazz. This selection presents the greatest hits of Coltrane’s career, including five of his best known compositions, all of which became jazz standards (among them the splendid “Blue Train,” “Giant Steps” and “Naima”), his breathtaking reading of “My Favorite Things,” and his poignant versions of the ballads “It’s Easy to Remember” and “In a Sentimental Mood” (on the latter backed by Duke Ellington on piano). Special Edition with cover and back cover photos by Chuck Stewart (1927-2017), probably the most important Afro-American jazz photographer, who produced images for more than 2,000 album covers.
