Upon arrival at the end of 2001, (Rotten Apples) The Smashing Pumpkins Greatest Hits bookended the opening chapter of the band’s career. It eventually reached RIAA gold status and earned widespread critical acclaim. The BBC professed, “A rare pleasure these days, a collection of tracks that span a band’s career than can actually justify the Greatest Hits title. If you love the sound of a guitar being put through its paces, then this is a must.” NME rated it “4 stars” and attested, “It proves they constantly strove to break the boundaries of the stolid rock band.”
